National Level Workshop On Sustainable Harvesting of Yarsagumba and Alternative Livelihood Promotion

The workshop titled National Level Workshop on Sustainable Harvesting of Yarsagumba and Alternative Livelihood Promotion was conducted on July 7, 2015 in Sangrilla Hotel, Kathmandu. Various experts, team members, stakeholders, responsible persons, politicians and locals from Rukum Districts were present in the workshop of about 4 hours. The programme was started from the Video Documentary showing prepared by the organization titled “The Yarsa Cycle”. After documentary the programme was started from the welcome and introduction of Chief guests. Welcome speech was given by Mr. Deependra Khadka, secretary of CCFRY. Then each and every participant gave their introduction. After introduction round, respected Prof.Dr. Mahesh Kumar Adhikari (Yarsagumba Expert) gave his presentation on title “Yarsagumba Sustainability, harvesting and Alternative livelihood Promotion”. He explained details on the Yarsagumba, distribution, history, importance, trade, policies and problems on the trade of Yarsagumba in Nepal. He also explained about the sustainable harvesting of the Yarsagumba in Nepal. After the presentation of Dr. MK Adhikari, Mr. Bikash Gyanwali, Project Co-ordinator of the project gave his presentation on Review and Reflect of achievements, experiences and lesson learning on implementation of the project. In his presentation Mr. Gyanwali explained about the achievements of the project. Firstly he explained about the conduction of Feasibility study for establishing cooperative institutions, conduction of three days long trainings on management of cooperatives, publication of a toolkit on Management. In the programme various representatives from donor agencies, government ministries, representatives from various NGOs, journalist, constituent Assembly member and local people from project area expressed their views and opinions.
Main Objectives of the programme:
- To gather national level policy input for sustainable harvesting and livelihood promotion
- Generate common understanding concerning sustainable harvesting and alternative livelihood promotion among central level stakeholders
- Review and Reflect of experiences and lesson learning on implementation of the project
- Disseminate knowledge based products produced during project implementation period
